SoCal Removal removed leak-damaged materials from a kitchen island in an Irvine home. A concealed hot-water supply leak under the sink had soaked the island cabinetry, the drywall behind it and the laminate flooring around it, and mold had grown on the affected materials. The work was selective removal: take out what was damaged, keep what could stay and leave the island ready for rebuilding.
What was removed
- Garbage disposal, water purifier, dishwasher and drain lines, detached to clear the sink base
- Island doors and drawers, taken out and set aside for reuse
- Mold-damaged cabinet back and side panels
- Affected drywall behind the sink and cabinetry
- Water-damaged laminate flooring around the island, down to the subfloor
All removed material was bagged inside the work area and hauled off for disposal.
Removing cabinetry under a retained countertop
The island’s heavy aggregate countertop stayed in place. Wood posts supported it while the cabinet boxes and panels below were opened and removed, so the top did not have to come off.
Containment and cleanup
Removal took place inside an approximately 640 sq ft plastic containment under HEPA-filtered negative air, so the rest of the kitchen stayed in use. Exposed framing, wiring and hardware were HEPA vacuumed and wiped down. A commercial dehumidifier and two air movers then dried the remaining framing and subfloor over four days. A corroded supply fitting was replaced with a new ball valve.
New panels, drywall patch-back, flooring and independent clearance testing were handled by the owner after removal.
Planning a similar removal
For cabinets, walls or flooring damaged by a leak, send photographs, the leak location, any inspection report and whether the space will stay in use. SoCal Removal will define what comes out, how the work area is contained and how debris is hauled off.
