This Santa Ana project involved selective demolition of concrete pavement and a short concrete masonry block wall. SoCal Removal removed the designated hardscape elements from an established residential exterior.
The homeowner had a backyard accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, and wanted to change the exterior arrangement so tenant access worked more independently of the primary residence. Selective hardscape removal was an early step toward that practical separation.
Defining what would be removed
The original courtyard contained concrete walking surfaces and a low block wall near the home. Those features formed a specific removal area rather than a whole-property demolition.
The project photographs show the relationship between the pavement, wall and nearby building features. That context is useful when defining a selective demolition scope: the work needs clear boundaries at retained steps, walls and other improvements.
Removing pavement and masonry
The documented assignment covered concrete pavement and CMU block wall removal. CMU refers to concrete masonry units—the blocks commonly used in masonry walls. The after-work view shows exposed ground where the designated hardscape had been removed.
A short wall can still involve connections or foundations that need to be understood before removal. A site review and available drawings help establish the work limits and identify any adjoining features requiring protection.
A handoff for future improvements
The resulting area was opened for the owner’s next stage of work. New paving, foundation work, drainage changes or landscaping should be separately defined so the demolition handoff matches the next contractor’s needs.
