SoCal Removal removed deteriorated asphalt from a parking area in Lake Balboa. The project addressed an existing pavement surface that had broken down and needed to be taken out before the property’s next improvement stage.
The work was performed as a subcontract assignment for California Skateparks of Upland. Lake Balboa is a neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles, placing the pavement-removal work in the San Fernando Valley.
About the work area
The parking lot was part of an established property with surrounding site features close to the pavement. Its condition and setting made removal limits important: the area to be demolished needed to be distinguished from adjoining improvements and access routes.
The before-work views show cracking and deterioration across the asphalt. They provide a useful record of the existing surface before equipment removal began.
Removing the existing pavement
The project photographs show broken asphalt and equipment handling material within the work area. The assignment was removal of the designated pavement so the underlying area could be addressed by the next scope.
Parking-lot replacement involves several separate decisions, including the pavement limits, base condition, drainage and final layout. The demolition stage should be planned with the designer or paving contractor responsible for those decisions.
Preparing for follow-on work
For a similar commercial or institutional parking area, SoCal Removal can review the site plan, required removal depth and access arrangements with the project team. A clear scope should identify who evaluates the exposed base and who performs any grading, compaction or new paving.
This Lake Balboa example shows the removal stage of a pavement improvement. It offers a practical starting point for owners comparing an existing lot with the area they intend to reconstruct.
