This Compton residence required removal of an asbestos-containing acoustic ceiling finish. SoCal Removal’s project addressed the designated popcorn texture as a separate abatement stage, performed by its Cal/OSHA DOSH-registered abatement subcontractor, before further ceiling improvements.
The client was preparing his first home for renovation. Addressing the identified ceiling material first created a separate, understandable stage before the planned interior finish work.
A ceiling finish with a specific removal scope
Acoustic texture can conceal the appearance of the surface beneath it. The work scope therefore needs to identify both the material being removed and the ceiling condition expected before a refinishing contractor takes over.
The project contract and invoice identify approximately 600 square feet of interior acoustic ceiling removal. The photographs show the protected work area and the ceiling through the removal process.
Working overhead within an existing room
Temporary protection enclosed the removal area. That enclosure separated the overhead task from adjacent room features and established a defined space for the work.
After the designated texture was removed, the underlying ceiling surface was visible. This is an intermediate renovation condition: patching, skim coating, priming and painting depend on the chosen finish and the condition of the existing ceiling.
Planning the finish sequence
Owners considering a popcorn-ceiling update should obtain the appropriate material assessment before disturbance and decide who will handle each stage. Abatement and finish work need planned scopes so the ceiling is handed over in the agreed condition.
SoCal Removal supports asbestos-related demolition and renovation projects in Southern California. For a Compton ceiling project, provide the report, room photographs and intended finish so the work area, access and handoff can be reviewed before scheduling.
